A Legacy Written in Fairways

Nearly Four Decades of Championship Golf

In 1985, Jack Nicklaus came to Atlanta to build his first course in the region, and after searching for the right piece of ground, he found it inside a gated community called The Country Club of the South. Partnering with developer Bob Sierra, Nicklaus began shaping the routing across the property's rolling terrain, and by 1987 the front nine was ready for members to play. As Nicklaus and the club's first Head Professional, Doug Grove, walked the first fairway together, Nicklaus knew he had created something special. He returned six months later to complete the back nine, later calling the finished 18 one of his finest efforts. To honor the club's charter members, he gave each one an exact replica of the wooden driver he'd used to win his last Masters, a gesture that helped cement the club's identity from day one and turned the pro shop into a destination of its own for members eager to carry home a piece of that legacy. Nearly four decades later, that same partnership still defines the club, a piece of golf history that continues to shape what it means to be a member here.

Our Championship Course

Carved through native Georgia pines, hickory, oak, and dogwood, the course features more than 85 feet of natural elevation change and holes bordering the Chattahoochee River, a routing that asks players to read the land as much as the greens. That design quickly earned a reputation as one of the top layouts in the Southeast, hosting the Champions Tour's Nationwide Championship from 1991 to 1994 and the Georgia State Amateur. It remains one of Nicklaus's most respected early designs, a true test for players of every level.

Every Level. Every Lesson.

Golf programming spans every level, from PGA Junior League and Crush It! for young players to Game On for adult beginners. A Callaway teaching studio and TrackMan technology sharpen every lesson, while club fitting and a fully stocked shop complete the experience.

Train Hard. Feel Great.

The club's fitness center pairs personal training and a full group class calendar, from yoga and pilates to boot camps, with state-of-the-art cardio and weight equipment. On-site physical therapy rounds it out, giving members a complete, modern approach to health and performance.

Twelve Courts. One Community.

The Tennis Center offers six lighted clay and six hard courts, a full pro shop, and a lounge for post-match gatherings. Members join leagues, tournaments, and team tennis, while a dedicated Junior Academy builds the next generation of players through expert instruction.
