Our Story

Born at the Masters Table. Built by the Greatest Three.

The story of Champions Retreat begins at the 1999 Masters Champions Dinner, where Gary Player extended an invitation to Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer to join him in creating something truly unprecedented — three individually designed nine-hole courses, each bearing the signature vision of one of golf's greatest champions, all on a single extraordinary property.

From 365 acres of towering Georgia pines, ancient hardwoods, wetlands, and Savannah River bottomland, Palmer, Nicklaus, and Player each sculpted a nine that reflected their philosophies, their artistry, and their deep respect for the game. Between the three of them, they carried 13 green jackets, 34 Major championship victories, and 159 professional tour wins. Never before had this collaboration existed at one address, and it has never been replicated since. By 2005 the courses were complete, and Champions Retreat had earned its place as one of the most singularly unique golf destinations in the world.

Our Future

Champions Retreat Golf Club stands alone as the only property in the world featuring individually designed courses by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player — three kings of the game whose legacies are woven into every round played here.

Since its acquisition by Arcis Golf in 2023, Champions Retreat has embarked on a multi-million-dollar transformation designed to match the caliber of its courses with an equally exceptional club experience. Phase One is complete, delivering reimagined dining and social spaces within the Grille House, a new concierge and cottage check-in experience, and refreshed amenities throughout the property. Phase Two — targeting fall 2026 completion — will bring bunker renovations across all three nines, a Trackman-equipped driving range with covered hitting bays, a new short-game area, putting greens, a halfway house, and an indoor racquet sports facility.

The championship pedigree runs deep. Champions Retreat has served as the host site for the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, with Jennifer Kupcho’s inaugural victory and Tsubasa Kajitani’s 2021 win cementing the club’s place in modern golf history. Six touring professionals representing the PGA, Champions, and Korn Ferry Tours call Champions Retreat home.

Some clubs rest on their legacy. Champions Retreat is busy building the next one.

27 Holes. Zero Repetition.

From elevation changes and scenic overlooks to water features and winding, creekside fairways, Champions Retreat offers a course experience that keeps you thinking from the first shot to the last. The variety across all 27 holes means no two rounds ever feel quite the same, and the conditions ensure that every round feels worth the walk.

Come for the Golf. Stay for Everything Else.

Membership here means more than a locker and a tee time. It means Sunday brunches, evenings at the speakeasy, rounds with friends who become family, and a club that keeps investing in making every visit better than the last. This is a place you will find reasons to come back to, long after the final putt drops.

Stay Longer. Leave Reluctantly.

The cottages at Champions Retreat turn a great golf trip into something you will talk about for years. From the moment you arrive and settle in, everything you need is within walking distance: the course, the dining, the practice facility, and an evening of cocktails and conversation. It is a full retreat experience with nothing left to plan.

Part of Something Bigger

Every spring, Champions Retreat becomes the stage for the Augusta National Women's Amateur, welcoming the finest amateur women's golfers in the world to these fairways. That connection to the game at its highest level runs through everything at the club, from the design of the spaces to the pride every member carries.

"I have played golf all over the country, and nothing compares to walking these fairways knowing Palmer, Nicklaus, and Player designed every hole with their own hands. The food, the cottages, the people — this club does not feel like a membership, it feels like home." — Champions Retreat Member
